Monday Mood Boost
Another fabulous week of weather and with everyone here on holiday, we have had our own holiday week as well. Monday saw us down to the CDA gym in Camposol for the excellent Yoga Flow class, this also runs at 10.30 am in Al Kasar on Monday’s and Thursday, and don't forget the Condado Gym’s, daily circuit training down on the tennis courts at the Condado Club, always popular.
Tuesday, our usual jaunt early doors into Alhama for the market (and breakfast !) it’s a great opportunity to buy fresh fruit and vegetables at great market prices and also have a look at all the other stalls selling everything from kitchen equipment to “designer” handbags, there are plenty of bars around also if you want coffee or snacks, try the tostada con tomate and breakfast like a local !
Wednesday, first day of the week when the sun wasn’t up first thing, we headed to the beach at Bolnuevo, although cloudy it was still warm and wonderful, with much book reading caught up on and many vintage songs remembered on the IPod.
Thursday, caught the bus from the stop outside the main entrance into Murcia, we love visiting Murcia, and with the University closed for the holidays it seemed a lot quieter around the city. The first stop is always the tourist office at the entrance to cathedral square, pick up a free map, it’s a lifesaver. We normally stop for a reminder of our old commuter lives for a flat white at the Starbucks on the square, but it’s now closed, the other Starbucks branch on the Gran Via is still open however. After the tourist sites we wandered into the scenic plaza’s of Santa Catalina and Flores or “Tapas Central” as it could be called, these are areas off the Gran Via with a wide variety of restaurants and great people watching. Another great restaurant is located behind the cathedral and is called “Monumental” this is brasserie/Spanish style with cool furnishings and an amazing Josper charcoal oven and a great Menu del Dia offering, so ditch the over priced cathedral square offerings and take a wander elsewhere for better food and a better experience. At the end of the day we ended up in a small bar in a backstreet off the river, with two freezer fresh, ice cold glasses of white wine and a plate of calimari with garlic mayo, 4.20 Eu the lot, we love this country !
Friday, time for a rest day, walking the outer ring road, enjoying the tranquility and then lounging in the sun !
Saturday, sadly the outdoor evening market was cancelled at short notice, not sure why but the police were present at 6pm preventing access. The market is organised by Alhama council and has nothing to do with the management of Condado but investigations will surely reveal, why this was cancelled without notice, and whether or not it will return to site.
Sunday, down to the port to visit some friends and breakfast out at the new beach club “Alamillo Comida Mediterranea” that has replaced Bar Med on the corner overlooking the sea at Alamillo, it has been refurbed inside and the welcome was friendly and the food looked good. The evening saw the fashion show extravaganza and “Rocio” performing Flamenco outside Eden Hair and Beauty, all to help raise funds for Condado Dog Care , it was a great evening and well supported by all, the Dog Care group is run by Patricia Stephens and her team, don’t forget also that thanks to Patricia, Condado also now has a mobility assist group that can lend mobility aids during your stay, see their FB group page for further details.
At the end of our exhausting holiday week we think Condado is a great place to holiday and for those of us lucky enough, it’s an even better place to live!
Few pictures to finish as usual and we wish you all a great week.
