Monday Mood Boost - 19th August 2019
19 Aug 2019 - Mark Needham

Firstly thanks to all, for the great feedback and comments on our last weeks MMB, it’s great to reminisce on the early days of Condado and loudly celebrate what a special place it has become for us all.

With the holiday season past its peak now, there are definite signs here of a slowing down on site, many holidaymakers have by now had their fix of our wonderful sunshine and headed home. There are a lot of regular visitors to Condado who by taking their holidays here support the resort.

This Thursday was Assumption Day, the last Spanish national holiday in August and many take this opportunity for a long weekend before returning to work in September. We thought it would be great to head into the port on Friday afternoon to see everyone at play !

We travelled down on the Interbus service from outside the front gates. We think this is probably the greatest Condado transport initiative ever, and only 6 Eu return per person. The bus has been a very popular attraction over the last few weeks, as getting into and parking in the port is always so difficult in high season. Please do try the bus before the end of August, tickets are available from Taquilla in the Condado Club, and the bus runs three times a day on Fri/Sat/Sun

Once in the port we hiked down from the bus station and up the very steep secret steps that take you from the paseo directly to El Faro. What a view, with cooling breezes and a great buzzy atmosphere with many queuing for tables. El Faro opens mid afternoon and is always worth a visit. After being fortified by ice cream we wandered down and along the beach, interesting to see at 6 pm just how many people were still on the beach and how many more were still arriving to soak up the late afternoon rays. After our walk we were in dire need of alcoholic refreshment, right at the end of the marina on the corner is the Prive bar, here we enjoyed a very well made Cosmo and Margarita, they were so good I forced myself to have a second Margarita !

With dusk approaching, it was time for dinner, we both had a real desire for a proper Pizza so despite all the wonderful Spanish offerings we stopped at Mama Mia. We were seated upstairs to the VIP terrace no less, with views over the sea towards Isla Plana. An excellent meal with brilliant thin crust pizzas, a rich chocolate cake (to share !) and accompanied with a fine bottle of Jumilla red wine, cheers !

The beach was still busy in the dark, but many had headed home and were really starting the evening celebrations, the Paseo was absolutely packed, there was even a little informal circus performance going on. What really struck us, as we were walking back to the bus at 11 pm to head home, was just how many Spanish holiday makers were just heading down to the Paseo for dinner in their finery, the late nite culture here is a very special thing !

There has been some great music on site this week with The Clover having a number of acts on from Wednesday to Sunday to celebrate what is normally our fiesta weekend, thanks to Chris and Maria for this entertainment. Don’t forget if you are here this week that Camposol Fiesta is on from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th. There are a number of great tribute bands in the evening (Fakers Quo, De Polis and a Jersey boys tribute) also a market and classic car show during the day.

The weather here has been as usual very hot and sunny but the coming week shows a cooling off from late 30’s down to early 30’s, I know that’s not what you want if you are here on holiday but some of us will be very pleased with that cooling down !

A few pictures to finish and we wish you all a great week
