Happy 1st Monday in September, I know it is not always the most cheerful day with many returning back to work after the summer break and with schools starting. But chin up and keep making those plans for your next visit as Condado in Autumn still has a lot to offer!
Just wanted to take the opportunity to say thanks to everyone who has made this another great Condado Summer. Thanks to all of the bars and restaurants who have kept us fed, watered and entertained through the heat and the crowds. Thanks to the resort board for the Interbus service to Mazarron, a great initiative with a high take up. Finally thanks to our sports gurus, Condado Gym for the circuit training classes and Ian from CDA for keeping us fit and active with the aquarobics in the pools and sessions in the Al Kasar.
What is there to look forward to ? September is the local wine harvest, so maybe take a trip to a local winery or contact them directly as many offer a tour. Last year we went to Luzon one of the largest local wine producers up in Yecla north of Murcia. There is nothing like seeing the grapes coming into the winery in the plastic containers warm from the vineyards ready to produce the next vintage. Never personally tried the “wine stomping” but seen others try!
Secondly all those local restaurants that have been full over the Summer are now far more accessible. Try Los Bartolos in Alhama, they have a wonderful garden terrace that we visited on Friday evening. We were very English and had the mixed paella, (no one in Spain EVER has Paella in the evening !) but also do try the tapas the “mini pork and fig jam sandwich” which was amazing as was the calamari rebozado. The Terraza is open until the Alhama “Feria” in October, and is recommended
For the golfers among you, October is high season on the fabulous signature course, and the big sporting event here is the Viking Cup, when the English, Irish and Scottish take on the Scandinavians in a pairs competition, it’s always a close and competitive day of Golf, with a great evening party to finish it off !
November brings the Tapas trail to Alhama, a great opportunity to experience a large number of bars and partake in a cold Cana and a tapa per visit. There is normally a train trundling around the trail also and that is great fun.
Construction watch is active again, after a summer of inactivity on the new Penthouse site, the crane was finally in action this week as the initial concrete footings were poured. We will continue to keep you updated as the first new builds on site start to rise from the ground.
Now a shameless plug for Ukulele Sunshine Band that I and three other Condado residents play in, we are performing on the 7th September at the Pensionista in Isla Plana. This is for the Friends of Mazarron Animals monthly market, it’s always a great event with many stalls containing books, clothes, food and all sorts of goodies, well worth a visit. It runs from 10 am- 2 pm and the Uke band starts at 11 am, we look forward to seeing you all !
For once this week I end on a sad note. One of our Condado Community Cats was run over and killed on the Motorway this week. “Little Missy” was a dear character who we have helped to look after and feed daily for the past three years. Condado will miss you Little Missy. xx
A few photos to finish as usual and we wish you a great week !
