On 25 December 2021, one of Condado’s longest serving security guards, Fernando Mateo Rubio, tragically passed away whilst on duty. Fernando had worked on Condado for over 16 years and started when the original building work commenced, and he was very popular with both his colleagues and many owners and visitors. He left behind a wife and son.
Following his untimely death there were numerous requests to start a fundraiser to provide a gift to Fernando’s family. More than €1.300 was collected and following discussions with his family, it was agreed to use the money raised to buy a tree in Fernando’s memory, together with a plinth. The tree and plinth have been planted on the grass area close to the main gate so that members of the community can pay their respects to Fernando throughout the year, but in particular on the occasion of the anniversary of his tragic passing.
