News: Ornamental Lake - Rantelles 2025 Treatment - Rantelles and Mosquitoes
Dear owners of La Isla,
We are sending you a reminder of the measures taken to alleviate the presence of rantelles in the ornamental lake:
The company Biocyma will apply a total of 30 treatments. Each application consists of spraying the entire surface of free water around the perimeter of the lake (rantelles), as well as spraying in puddles and other small accumulations of water in the La Isla complex (haematophagous mosquitoes; genera Cúlex and Aphedes) with a hand-held pressure knapsack. The application in the banks is related to the vital development of this species. The larvae are deposited in the sediment accumulations and are dragged to the edges of the lake just before the rupture of the exuvia (egg). Once they have reached a sufficient level of maturity, they surface near the shore.
Treatments are usually carried out every 7 days depending on the temperature and humidity regime, although they may be more frequent to try to counteract a detected high production. If it is necessary to increase the frequency, you will be informed.
It is important to note that this treatment targets the larvae, so it does not kill the full-grown adults.
The next Biocyma treatment will take place next Monday, 7 April.
In addition to the usual fortnightly treatments of the lake water and scuppers, STV will soon apply a shock treatment to the ornamental lake, based on the same active ingredient.
The next STV treatments will take place next Friday, 4th April, as follows.
- Firstly, the adulticide treatment will be applied to the hedges in the backyards and closest to the ornamental lake, followed by the treatment on the ground floor of the front area, closest to the roads.
- Secondly, the larvicide treatment will be applied in the lake.
- The reason for doing it this way is to avoid incompatibility between the two biocides. However, if the wind is excessive, one of the two treatments could be suspended at the discretion of the technicians.
The following precautions should be taken:
Before starting the treatment, all persons, except those in charge of carrying out the treatment, shall have left the areas subject to the treatment, as well as all other areas that could be affected by the treatment. Persons suffering from allergies and/or asthma are advised to take the above measures into special consideration.
- There shall be no animals, food or utensils/materials used in handling (preparation, processing, packaging, consumption, etc.) that may come into contact with them in the treatment areas. Those that for whatever reason cannot be removed must be completely covered with a material that is not permeable to the pesticide. To ensure that there is no risk of subsequent contamination, utensils that have been covered must be properly cleaned before re-use.
- All people must avoid touching surfaces that may have come into contact with the pesticide until after the established re-entry period into treated areas. In case of any suspicion of contact, wash immediately.
- Risk prevention and safety systems shall be kept alert.
- Treatments shall be planned and carried out taking into account environmental and other conditions that may have an impact on the outcome of treatments, with the aim of ensuring that they are always carried out in the safest, most efficient and sustainable manner.
On the other hand, it is necessary to take into account that the surrounding crops are also a refuge for rantelles, and this area is outside the scope of Community action. Biocyma is studying possible solutions for the implementation of passive measures to reduce migration as well as others that allow the treatment of the entire body of water.
Thank you in advance for your attention and best regards.
