News: Ornamental Lake - Carpae removal
Dear La Isla owners,
Please be informed that the week of December, 1st the works for removing carps from the irrigation lake will begin.
After the observations of some presidents, Biocyma has been consulted about the possibility of removing fish from the ornamental lake.
They assure that there are very few and the cost/benefit ratio is very high. In addition, at this time, it is very difficult to do so due to the large amount of water and the low number of specimens. It is impossible to eliminate them without emptying and eradicating them without drying them out and they probably ended up there after having escaped from a heron or by the release of an owner.
These works have been scheduled for this moment mainly for two reasons:
- A lower need for garden watering
- That the irrigation lake will reach the required height of 40 cm that week to carry out the first phase of the process.
The first phase consists of the preliminary fishing, where, once the water height has been reduced to 30 - 50 cm, the specimens are removed with manual trawls and installation of gills of different mesh size. This prevents the simultaneous death of a large volume of fish, which could make it difficult to manage and treat them correctly.
The second phase begins with the complete emptying of the lake, simultaneous with the removal, slaughter, transport and management of the rest of the carps, and ends with a short period of drying to guarantee the propagation or survival of specimens. After evaporation of the rest that has remained after emptying, it should be kept completely dry for about 2 weeks.
To take advantage of the existing water before the second phase, about 3,000m3, it will be diverted to the rainwater pond 35 through the bottom drain of the irrigation lake.
We would also like to remind you of the importance of being aware that no one should feed the very few fish in the lake or release fish or other animal species, as this can alter the ecosystem, ruin the lake's recovery and cause pests.
The consulting firm Biocyma proposes to carry out the fishing of the lake every two or three years, when conditions are more favorable, and also to raise awareness among owners not to release any type of species into the lake.
The work should be completed by Friday, 5 December.
We remain at your disposal.
Kindest regards.
